Photos: Exploring Abandoned Buildings – St. Nicholas Coal Breaker in Mahanoy, Pennsylvania

Posted on September 22, 2015 by Lindsay

Last summer, Jason and I visited Mahanoy, Pennsylvania with my family to look into some old family roots. On the way out we stopped to explore an abandoned building, the St. Nicholas Coal Breaker. The now defunct plant last operated in 1972 and according to Wikipedia, “was at one time the largest and most productive coal breaker in the world.”

It turns out that we were able to check this structure out right before official demolition began in January of this year. Take a look at some photos we snapped.
