Eurotrip Day 1 – Copenhagen, Denmark: Cafe Norden, Rosenborg Castle, Cafe Paludan and More

Posted on October 26, 2015 by Lindsay

Jason and I spent 21 days in Europe and together we took about 2500 photos. If you looked at one photo a second that would take about 42 minutes. If you want to ask me everything that’s on the smorgasbord plate it might take 42 minutes just to get through Copenhagen. After a lot of internal debate about how to sort through these photos, we decided to do a day by day look at our trip. We have them parsed down they are now ready for your viewing pleasure. So strap in and get ready for a trip filled with food, fun and coffee (obviously.)

We start our journey at the airport with one relaxed guy at a very quiet International terminal. If you take a look at Jason’s backpack, that’s all we took on our three week trip. In the end, I think we could have even traveled lighter. Three weeks in just a carry on and we were still over packed!

I perked up just enough on the flight to snap some pics somewhere over Iceland.

We had a brief layover at the Iceland airport where we encountered our first of many ‘Joe & The Juice’ shops. For my creatively challenged friends, they serve coffee and juice. Juice is huge in Europe by the way and very tasty.

We went on our way and before we knew it we were in Copenhagen! Look at us all bright eyed after that air plane slumber sesh.

Naturally, we were ready for food. We headed down Strøget, Europe’s longest pedestrian shopping street and stopped at Cafe Norden.

We went with the Smørebrød platter that was full of tasty delights.

Here’s a great shot of our tasty coffee and cake. MMMM CAKE.

We said goodbye to our food and moved on to check into our place, admiring some buildings along the way.

After opening a large door by the street, we ventured down this delightful corridor…

…and met our home for the next five days.

One of our favorite things about the place we stayed was the amazing location. After we finished packing, we walked across the street to Kongens Have aka “The King’s Garden.” See here’s our building:

And there’s the garden!

Oh and it’s called The King’s Garden because here you’ll find Rosenborg Castle.

A closer look at the castle.

The garden was very beautiful and full of life. We walked by or in the park almost every day we were in Copenhagen and there were always people out enjoying the day. But enough of the park, we are in desperate need of coffee!

Welcome to Paludan Bogcafe.

At this cafe you can grab a quick bite, enjoy a cup of coffee, read a book or maybe all three.

This place had a perfect atmosphere and cozy vibe but was actually quite big and bustling. It seemed to be a hub for all levels of excitement from students studying to couples swapping stories before a night out. I loved this place!

We found a cozy spot to share some coffee after meeting two very friendly baristas. Then we took a look at our “map” (a detailed selection of places I curated through Google maps – I’ll post about this in the future) and decided where to go for dinner.

We were looking for something casual and ended up at the perfect place – Cafe Munk. Cafe Munk is a very cozy Indian restaurant where you can snuggle up on a bench of pillows and take your time with your meal.

Taking a suggestion from one of the servers we walked around to see a few sights in the area as night fell. Then we headed back for a good night’s sleep to prep for day 2! Check back tomorrow and continue the journey with us through Europe.
