Weekly Photo Recap: Insomniac

Posted on August 15, 2016 by Lindsay

This past week was not a good one for yours truly. I spent the large majority of last week being a sick, stressed insomniac. As you might imagine, I phoned it in for the weekly photos. If you’re still interested in what I was up to last week despite that glowing introduction, then by all means, let’s continue.

MONDAY

The start of the week was fairly productive. I had a busy day at work and a successful podcast recording in the evening. I didn’t really take any personal photos that day but I did get the opportunity to take employee portraits at work. I’m please with the way the portraits came out but I don’t think anyone would care to have their photo up here on Also Coffee. Still, it was nice to get some experience shooting in a more professional setting.

WEEK-08AUG2016-02

TUESDAY

My insomnia started on Tuesday. I have never had insomnia, save for a few one-off occasions, so I didn’t think much of it at first. I was up late but mainly because I was working on clearing out my closet again. I talked a little last week about trying to edit my wardrobe, and I started with my shoes first. I got rid of a LOT of shoes last year (because I’m a cliche apparently) so when I took all of my shoes out, I was surprised how many I still had in my arsenal.

I wound up editing the 30 pairs down to 16. I actually had doubles of a lot of plain sneakers so that was easy. And as much as I love having the variety of heels, I know that I only ever wear a pair on special occasions. I may end up replacing a few pairs with more quality brands since I’m addicted to buying cheap. Hopefully, that will ensure everything lasts longer and doesn’t tempt me to buy “two pairs because they’re a deal!”

WEEK-08AUG2016-03

WEDNESDAY

Mid week had me stressed out. The week prior I had somehow picked up a little poison ivy rash that was just not letting up. I finally went to the doctors to get some legitimate cream/treatment. The doc prescribed me steroid cream and oral steroids but comforted me with the information that the only side effect I might have from it would be insomnia. Ah, okay. -_- I stuck with the cream.

Later on, I tried my hardest to unwind and even put on a “stress relieving” facial mask for shits and giggles. I don’t think it reduced my stress very much but it did show me what I would look like as a smurf.

Fun fact: this facial expression is a fairly accurate representation of what I normally look like.

THURSDAY

Another day of Hell. Seriously, what was happening last week? I still don’t know. I was so so so tired and I could not sleep. Thankfully, Jason helped me out with the dog before heading out and I spent my night accomplishing nothing (including sleeping) besides ordering Chinese food. Thursday highlight: these dumplings we’re delightful.

WEEK-08AUG2016-05

FRIDAY

Not only was I still exhausted, but right before lunch I was hit with a very sudden pang of nausea. Totally out of nowhere – blah. I felt a lot better after I ate but the day was so hot and stressful that I never fully felt right. Jason’s family was in town so we joined them in the evening for a big dinner which was lovely despite my sweaty, sickly self. It was a private event and I didn’t feel like imposing with my camera so here’s a shot of the best medicine ever courtesy of my grainy camera phone.

WEEK-08AUG2016-06

SATURDAY

This was the first day I got any semblance of sleep. I still felt pretty tired in the morning but noticeably better. Thankfully, it was a pleasant 210 degrees outside so I was happy to take the dog out. For real, I was in my car for less than five seconds before I was completely drenched in sweat. Ellie went out to swim because there was nothing else worth doing. She had a ball though so good for her.

Later on, we went out to dinner with family and friends. If anything is going to pick up your spirits, it’s Korean BBQ. Thanks Be-One Korean BBQ.

WEEK-08AUG2016-08

Jason’s sister had a pretty slammin idea to get some Insomnia Cookies after dinner. A coincidental choice.

She got an ice cream “sammie”.

WEEK-08AUG2016-09

SUNDAY

I did my best to get some work done on Sunday. I did finish up a few things but I had a headache most of the day. I put off meal planning and running errands which was fine.

In the evening, we had an event downtown so Jason & I grabbed a quick bite at Marie Louise Bistro.

WEEK-08AUG2016-10

They’re a French cafe that serves a large variety of tasty sweet treats. I didn’t have anytime to sit down with one but that didn’t stop me from ogling.

WEEK-08AUG2016-11

We ended the night with the French Toast Sunday crew at the Baltimore escape room Escape 45. We were so thankful to be invited to the escape room. We had a blast during the challenge and I loved watching everyone work together so well! Look out for a full review from FTS soon.

WEEK-08AUG2016-12

So, that was my week. I’m feeling pretty good today and I’m confident this week will go more smoothly than the last. We have a few trips coming up and I’m nervous about making plans but I’ll focus this next week on keeping a cool head and getting a strategy together. To productivity!

What was the highlight of your week?

I so want that French Toast Sunday Film Club T-shirt if it comes in a size hefty.

Insomnia is the worst (outside of pretending to be the narrator in “Fight Club”) and not helped when doctors usually advise you to give up caffeine as their standard answer which is essentially the same as telling me to give up breathing. I did get some insomnia tea (doubt that’s its actual name) from the eastern medicine store, though had the downside of knocking me out cold for six hours straight to the point where a bomb could have gone off and I wouldn’t have noticed. Maybe try some green tea or redbush and see if that helps.

Still once more you’ve made me insanely jealous of all the good places to eat near you, which honestly isn’t happening here.

I would totally get you one! The shop we used to sell them out of closed and I’ve been meaning to look into another one.

Yeah, I don’t know what it was this week! But it was certainly making me feel sick. Cutting caffeine is a definite no-go for me but I don’t think I drank anything caffeinated in the afternoon/evenings so I doubt it would have helped much. As for the tea suggestion, I might try that next time although I kind of hate tea hahah. I’ve warmed up to it slightly over the years but in general I stay away.

So sorry to hear again about your rough week! That sounds like a whole lot of stress and frustration.

Your shoe downsizing is impressive! I have gone through a couple rounds of my own, but I really should do a more thorough examination of what I’m actually wearing and makes sense to hold onto. I love reading about clothing organization and stuff so if you did a whole post on that after going through your wardrobe I’d be interested. My only question on the shoe minimizing is retiring the comic book Chucks?? I guess keeping shoes around specifically for comic con might go against the keeping onto what you “need” though.

Korean bbq was great as always and still grinning from the escape room! I almost suggested going to Marie Louis Bistro actually (no surprise that I had the same thought as you though to be fair). Hope this week is much chiller for you!

Yeah I went through all of my clothes last week too and did a pretty good edit. I want to count the pieces and consider what I should swap out (if something can be more versatile) Even looking at the shoes, I will probably edit the loafers again in the Fall.

I like reading about clothes organization too! Hahah I might try to do a post about, maybe related to how it can help with traveling light. Also, why did you have to mention the Chucks!?! I was really struggling with getting rid of them – I’ve had them since middle school! – but yeah, wearing them once maybe twice a year isn’t great.

Oh goodness, so sorry to hear about the insomnia. I can’t definitely relate, it’s been a life long struggle for me. It’s alarming how quickly our bodies start faltering without sleep, isn’t it? I hope this week goes much better. Marie Louise looks incredible!

Wow that truly sucks that you have to deal with that. It is a little scary just how much sleep effects your body. I wish I was more diligent about getting a good amount of sleep during a normal week.

Last week went much better for me though! Thanks for the well wishes.

I need a shoe cull! I’m impressed with your work. I hang on to things ‘just in case’ but that’s a bad habit I need to get out of. Sorry about your insomnia and stress, I’ve gone through bouts of insomnia before for various reasons and found it the most frustrating thing. I’m sure my circumstances are different to yours but you have my full sympathy and I hope you’re able to get on top of things soon.

Ugh, I definitely do that too. I really like to have “options” when I need something but over time I realized that I always end up wearing the same things anyway. I’m almost completely done making my capsule wardrobe (I’ll try to post about it soon) but I’m loving it so far! It’s very easy to get dressed.

I’m so glad that I finally got to sleep last week! I hope you never have another run in with insomnia!

Hahah it was really only that first day that I got anything done. Feeling much better now though, thank you!
