Marshy Point Nature Center in Middle River, MD

Posted on December 12, 2016 by Lindsay

I’ve mentioned before on various forms of social media that Marshy Point Nature Center is one of my favorite local spots to take Ellie out for a walk. Over the past year, I’ve taken my camera to the park to snap a few photos and now I’ve finally put some together to share with you. Take a look.

The quiet and beautiful Marshy Point Nature Center officially opened in the Spring of 2000. The relatively new area has a storied history; it was once used as hunting grounds for President Benjamin Harrison, Babe Ruth, and Annie Oakley. The area was also essential in the development of Maryland’s state dog, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Marshy Point has over three miles of hiking trails, two nature trails, a wildlife observation platform, a butterfly garden and a Nature Center on site. The park is very family friendly and happily welcomes dogs on the trails.

Since the park is close to our house, I often take Ellie out for a walk there in the evening after work or during the day on the weekends. The park hosts a lot of educational and family friendly events but is generally a very quiet place to take a stroll. It’s a small place but never over crowded or busy.

Here’s a few photos I’ve taken on various visits from this past year:
