Weekly Photo Recap: Icelanders

Posted on April 16, 2019 by Lindsay

Oh hey there! Did you think I forgot about this recap? It took quite a while to get this wrapped up but here we are – back in Iceland!

THE WEEK OF MARCH 4th, 2019

MONDAY

We woke up feeling more refreshed than the day prior and I ate a tasty little breakfast that turned out to be my new morning go-to.

We were headed to some of the major sights along the Golden Circle. First stop – Strokkur Geysir!

I can never manage to get an actual photo of the main geyser erupting but these small side pools look pretty rad.

Right up the road, you will find Gullfoss – one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls.

After a short discussion on where we should head to next, Jess suggested the Faxi waterfall. It was certainly less populated than Gullfoss but it felt extra special having the area almost completely to ourselves.

Up close and personal.

I really can’t begin to tell you how cute these two are.

I loved this spot and was so happy Jess found it!

Finally, it was time to eat!! We had our sights set on a dairy farm we read about called Efstidalur. Fantastic burgers, coffee & ice cream.

Oh and they also had a Border Collie on staff that I’m pretty sure wanted to be best friends? I don’t know but we exchanged information and are planning on becoming pen pals.

We headed back to hang out at the cabin and stayed in to enjoy the beautiful night views.

TUESDAY

There was a lot of debate with our British companions on the merits of pancakes vs. flapjacks vs. crepes so Tuesday morning we decided to show everyone why pancakes are superior and one of the greatest breakfast foods.

After breakfast, we were ready to do a bit more exploring down the Southern Coast. Our first stop was Seljalandsfoss!

You can walk behind the main waterfall and see it up close!

A short walk away is Gljúfrafoss. This waterfall is somewhat hidden but you can head inside for some spectacular views.

We were ready to find our next stop but I made a quick B-line straight for these donuts at the concession stand. Review? They were not very good but what was I going to do? NOT try multiple flavors? I do not understand the concept of self-control.

Anyway, our next stop on our road trip was the lovely Skogafoss.

We gave ourselves a little work out and climbed to the top of the falls to see more of its beauty.

Absolutely gorgeous!

Before leaving, we stopped at a small fish & chips shop located at the waterfall. Jason and I had went here the last time we were in Iceland and once again, it did not disappoint.

The next stop on the list was Reynisfjara – the Black Sand Beach. This is a definite must-see destination but watch out for those sneaker waves.

On our way back home, we stopped over to Dyrhólaey to see the scenic arch and another view of the beach from above.

This is one of my favorite places in Iceland.

Eventually, we made it back to our cabin for a home cooked meal and fireside wind-down.
