Weekly Photo Recap: Reunion

I am quite behind on my recaps thanks to a recent vacation. Let’s take it back a few weeks…

THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 25th, 2019

MONDAY

I couldn’t believe it was the week of our trip. I was feeling overwhelmed with everything there was to do but adopted a Shoulder-Shrug attitude towards packing and trip preparation. At this point, there wasn’t much I could do about the timelines! Jason and I probably stressed out too much but at a certain point you just have to go with the flow. Also, eat sushi at your favorite neighborhood spot.

TUESDAY

I started working on my top bun and unsuccessfully attempted to show off my sweater.

After work, I picked up a few items for the trip and purchased too many fun snacks and beanies.

The glamorous side of home renovation includes eating gummy bears out of your pocket while buying paint at Home Depot.

WEDNESDAY

Before heading out to IKEA, Jason and I tried out a new-to-us restaurant. I highly recommend Terra’s Cafe for all of your comfort food needs!

THURSDAY

Always a late night before a trip. Jason and I finished our packing, stopped off at Home Depot, wrapped up all of the odds and ends that we had and finally ate a late dinner. With all of the support and love I get from Jason, it’s hard to conceptualize a life without his adorable face.

FRIDAY

Right after work we made our way to the airport for an overnight flight. I never sleep too comfortably on a plane but it was finally time to let everything go and take off.

SATURDAY

Finally we had arrived at Keflavík Airport! Somewhere between hitting up the duty free shops and picking up our rental car, I found myself reunited with Joe & the Juice once again.

In order to kill time before we met up with the rest of group (and also attempt to squash the jetlag) we stopped into Reykjavik to eat and explore. We settled into Grái Kötturinn (aka The Grey Cat) for a cozy breakfast.

It was a beautiful, sunny day in the city by the sea.

We checked out the Kolaportid Flea Market & picked up more coffee at Te & Kaffi

We made plans to meet up with Jay & Aisha at the Harpa concert hall so we could check out the Icelandic Food Market before heading out to get groceries. The building itself is a real beauty.

Inside, we stopped into some of the gift shops and stalls.

I picked up some very tasty donuts thanks to Le KocK Street Food.

Eventually, we met up with Jay & Aisha and we were very tired but persisted on to grocery shopping. I have no exciting photos from this endeavor but here’s a shot of one of the many hot dogs I ate on this trip. This one from the always delicious Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur.

It already felt like such a long day as we were running on little to no sleep. So after we had finished shopping, we made our way out to our Airbnb right outside the town of Flúðir. This windowed corner of the cabin remained my favorite spot for the entirety of the trip 🙂

SUNDAY

Good morning!! I woke up in the morning feeling surprisingly refreshed and excited to start exploring.

We decided on visiting a few waterfalls near our cabin so we hit the road!

~~Driving~~ Being driven around in Iceland is a constant pleasure thanks to views like this.

Then things got crazy. We started heading to Haifoss Waterfall, the second highest waterfall in Iceland. I was under the impression that Jason and I had went to this waterfall but I was mistaken. The drive to see the falls was treacherous and we collectively grit our teeth for about 20 minutes straight as we made it to the top of the mountain. The area was awesome but the wind was so intense that we could only make it over to the cliff side part of the way. The vastness of the space was incredible.

Haifoss seems like a more appropriate destination for the summer but in the end, I feel like it was certainly a moment to behold!

Our next waterfall – Hjalparfoss – was a much easier travel destination. The gorgeous dual waterfall merges together in a small pool of deep blue water.
