PHOTOS: A Look inside Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA

Early Spring of 2014, Jason and I join bffs Jess & Rob for a fun filled day trip to Philadelphia, PA. I have a soft spot for Philly as it sort of reminds me of Baltimore and has my favorite donut spot of all time. Philadelphia also has a lot of great history (including this look inside Eastern State Penitentiary), amazing restaurants and Kevin Bacon is from there.

One of the best stops you can make during a Philly day trip is to the Eastern State Penitentiary. This innovative prison is largely responsible for the movement of valuing reform over punishment within the prison system. It was closed in 1971 and stands today as a historic landmark that you can tour.

ESP also runs a haunted attraction during Halloween time where you can actually walk through the building as part of the event. I went when I was in high school and remember thinking the building was much more impressive than the scares.
