Our first stop in DC last summer was to Astro Doughnuts. Fried chicken and donuts is a combo that should excite even the pickiest eaters. Seriously, what’s not to like?

I kept it simple and went with the “award-winning” creme brulee and the seasonal passion fruit donut.

While I enjoyed the creme brulee, I thought the passion fruit was miles better. Maybe it was just hitting my taste buds in a special way that day or maybe I’m just enjoying fruity flavored donuts more and more. If they have it in stock I highly recommend it. Next time, I’d like to try out their PBJ option.

Of course, I also had to try out the fried chicken. What kind of person would I be if I didn’t? It paired up great with the sweet treats.

When Jason scanned the menu, one item immediately caught his eye. The old bay fried chicken sandwich.

Yes, that is a donut-bun but don’t get too excited, it tastes a bit more like a biscuit.

Astro Doughnuts produces attractive, tasty treats. You can try them out at their small shop downtown, secondary location in Falls Church, VA or catch them on the streets via food truck.
