Weekly Photo Recap: New England

Posted on September 28, 2018 by Lindsay

I missed a few weeks on here thanks to our New England road trip. Let’s take it back to the beginning…

THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 10th, 2018

MONDAY

I started to get things in order for our upcoming adventure by busting out some of my favorite Fall sweaters and plaid blankets. Oh, how I’ve missed them.

TUESDAY

I shocked myself by finishing up all of my packing early! I found this in the closet and remembered that it would be days away from October once we returned home. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

WEDNESDAY

Ellie could sense that Jason and I had be preparing for something all week. I had to reassure her that she’d be along for the ride this time.

Her little sassy lip puff kills me.

Jason and I worked hard to get everything ready at the house and make sure the car was packed up with all of the essentials. We ended the night with a late dinner at Liberatores.

THURSDAY

We took a similar approach to our last road trip and left early on Thursday to cover a big chunk of ground on the first day of driving. It felt damn good to finally be on our way!

We arrived at our cabin in New York that we booked thanks to Hipcamp* and our host had already built us a fire. Ellie loved having the ability to chill out off-leash and I was just happy to have a campfire hotdog cooked up by Jason.

It was already a great start to the trip.

FRIDAY

We woke up bright and early to enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch before doing a bit of exploring.

The cabin was nestled in the woods next to some hiking trails and a pond so we spent the morning taking Ellie for a walk among the trees.

After breakfast, it was time to get back on the road and on to our next destination. Bye cute cabin!

One of us is excited to feel the wind and the other is ready for the sweet treat pit stops.

Our first donut stop of the trip was to Kosiner Brothers Dohnut Shop in New Platz, NY.

Then it was little more driving before we popped over to Cider Belly in Albany, NY for some delicious cider donuts.

We had successfully filled up on sugar and then finally arrived at our next cabin in Vermont!

It was wonderfully secluded and the view wasn’t half bad either.

We had booked this cabin through Airbnb* and it ended up being one of our favorite stops of the trip.

Not bad for an off-the-grid cabin with no running water.

The cabin backed up to the Green Mountain National Forest so we took advantage of the nearby trails and hiked before sunset.

We ended the night by the fire pit before curling up on the couch reading mystery stories.

SATURDAY

One of my biggest goals for this trip was to wake up every morning for sunrise. I’m still not sure how I pulled it off but it was absolutely worth it.

The sun had just started to peak up over the mountains.

Then, the whole sky filled with warmth.

Even Ellie was still sleepy.

So we went back inside to relax before breakfast.

Thumbs Up for our Bones Coffee Company Dark Roast.

Breakfast was filled with bacon, pancakes and plans for our next hike.

We chose to hike the Bald Mountain trail located in the Glastenbury Wilderness area of the Green Mountains. The out & back hike started off completely uphill.

We spotted loads of cool looking mushrooms along the trail.

Then the steep climb finally opened up and we were rewarded with some cool views from atop the mountain.

After a quick lunch break, we headed back down and enjoyed the descent.

On our way back to our home for the night, we stumbled upon a local street festival in town. We couldn’t resist an opportunity for treats so we grabbed an apple cider slushie and a maple fried dough!

Later on, it was burgers by the fire and the most incredible starry night sky I’ve ever seen.

SUNDAY

The last morning at our lovely Vermont cabin was filled with rolling fog and sweeping views of the sunrise.

We headed North and made a stop for coffee and donuts at Mocha Joe’s and Yalla in Brattleboro, Vermont.

We made the last minute decision to detour slightly and head up to a place we both agreed that we would regret missing out on: Dog Mountain. I read about Dog Mountain years ago and have wanted to go ever since. The 150 acres of private mountaintop is maintained as a free range park that welcomes any and all dogs to run, hike and swim. Artist Stephen Huneck bought the property with his wife in 1995 and slowly created an oasis for everyone’s furry friends. The property contains numerous hiking trails, a few large ponds, many wonderful statues and an incredible dog chapel – where owners can come to remember dogs that have passed. The property was everything I dreamed it would be and I’m so happy we decided to spend our day hiking and experiencing the space.

The wildflowers were gorgeous!

Ellie couldn’t resist a swim in the pond (obviously.)

Eventually, we made our way over to the chapel.

The inside was so beautiful and peaceful.

The walls were lined with notes dedicated to so many loving family pets.

We were both very happy to have made the trip to dog mountain.

By the evening, we made it to our next camping spot in New Hampshire and quickly got started setting up the tent.

And did I mention our campsite was sitting pretty right along a picturesque rocky river? Ellie was very happy about it.

We started up the fire and got right to cooking. What a peaceful end to the week.

Our trip continues next week so keep an eye out for the next recap coming soon!
