Richmond, Virginia is an amazing city with a surprising amount of culture and vibrancy. Here are the highlights of our recent day trip to Richmond and some suggestions on how you can enjoy the city this summer.
5 THINGS TO DO IN RICHMOND, VA
#01. SEE THE STREET ART
Sanctioned street art is a huge part of the appeal in Richmond. You can find art all over the city in any place there is an open wall. I have a few example photos below but you check out a full photo set in this post here.
#02. VISIT THE SHOPS & RESTAURANTS IN CARYTOWN
There are plenty of lovely restaurants and cute shops to choose from in Carytown – a must-visit area of Downtown Richmond.
Love, love, love this adorable used book store Chop Suey. A super welcoming environment, opening it’s doors and inviting you to flip through a book.
World of Mirth is an awesome toy store for kids of ALL ages.
I considered buying both that badass mirror and the Twin Peaks print. I mean come on.
#03. STROLL ALONG THE CANAL
One of downtown’s biggest tourist draws is the beautiful canal walk. It’s a little over a mile long and runs through the city. It’s always open and also connects to one of Richmond’s many bike trails. If cycling isn’t your style, you can also hop on a quick boat tour.
#02. GET AN ICED COFFEE AT URBAN FARMHOUSE
If you need some coffee (obviously you do) but want to beat the heat, head over to Urban Farmhouse. Check out this delicious drink list!
I got a coffee Farmfrost that was super yummy and surprisingly light.
You can even pick up a treat for your pooch!
#05. GET A SUGAR SHACK DONUT
Last but not least, don’t forget to grab a donut while you’re in town. Might I suggest the fantastic Sugar Shack Donuts? This place is consistently ranked as one of America’s BEST donut shops and it’s really not hard to taste why. Do yourself a favor and eat one. (See more of our profile on Sugar Shack here.)

I visited Richmond about 6 years ago since a friend lives nearby, and I don’t remember us doing nearly as many cool things as you suggest here! That canal walk and historic boat tour seem very fun. And omg, so many cute shops!!
