Rounding out the travel recaps for Kansas City, I’m showcasing some of the best Things To See & Do in Kansas City, MO. Keep reading and take a look at what he did during our time in the city.
MARVEL AT THE ARCHITECTURE IN UNION STATION
The former 1914 train station has since been beautifully restored and now features plenty to do. There are shops, restaurants, a science museum, IMAX theater and a planetarium. But my favorite part was wandering the halls and admiring the grand space and architectural detailing. Stop in, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy.
STROLL THROUGH PENN VALLEY PARK
The large green space is a pleasant albeit hilly walk where you can visit the National World War I Museum/Memorial and the Liberty Memorial Observation Tower which let’s you see a 360 degree view of the city from 21 stories up.
COMB THROUGH AISLES OF ANTIQUES
Kansas City is any antique lover’s dream. We visited a handful of great spaces with an abundance of fun finds. Check out Urban Mining for beautiful mid century modern pieces, Weird Stuff Antiques for quirkier goods and River Market Antiques for a giant selection.
FIND ALL THE BEST STREET ART
From the Kansas City Public Library to the graffiti walls of Art Alley – KCMO has some of the best street art I’ve seen. You can see more art in Jason’s post, found here.
USE YOUR QUARTERS AT A BARCADE
We had the immense pleasure of checking out two very cool barcades in town. The slightly more family friendly restaurant/bar Tapcade offers plenty of games and cult film screenings at the connected Screenland Theater while Up-Down KC has a full blown 2-floor arcade space with a badass bar and corner pizza window.
GET CULTURED AT THE NELSON ATKINS ART MUSEUM
One of the biggest tourist draws is the lovely (and free!) Nelson Atkins museum featuring a deep collection of art spanning every style you can think of. We visited during the museum’s Day of the Dead Festival which was an absolutely fantastic experience.
